Faidon Georgitsis
Phaedon Georgitsis (Φαίδων Γεωργίτσης; January 21, 1939 – March 1, 2019) was a celebrated Greek actor renowned for his contributions to both cinema and theater. Over his illustrious career, he appeared in numerous films, with 13 produced by the prominent Finos Film studio. Georgitsis gained significant recognition through his roles in musical films directed by Yannis Dalianidis, often sharing the screen with notable co-stars such as Mary Chronopoulou, Zoe Laskaris, Kostas Voutsas, and Martha Karagiannis.
His artistic journey began with formal training at the Drama Schools of esteemed figures like Karolos Koun, Christos Vlachiotis, and Pelos Katselis. Georgitsis made his cinematic debut in the acclaimed film "Never on Sunday," directed by Jules Dassin, in 1960. His theatrical endeavors included collaborations with Karolos Koun's "Karolos Koun" Art Theater, the State Theater of Northern Greece, and Minoas Volanakis's troupe, showcasing his versatility as a performer.
In television, he first appeared in the 1972 series "Red Ring," but it was in the 1990s that he regained public acclaim through popular daily series such as "Good Morning Life" and "Shine," created by Nikos Foskolos. Besides acting, Georgitsis also ventured into directing both theatrical and film projects. He passed away at the age of 80 on March 1, 2019, after a battle with brain cancer, leaving behind a rich legacy in Greek performing arts.
