Roméo Johnny Elvis Kiki Van Laeken, known professionally as Roméo Elvis, was born on December 13, 1992, in Uccle, Belgium. He is a prominent Belgian rapper, record producer, and hip-hop artist, celebrated for his unique sound and artistic contributions to the Francophone music scene.
Elvis's musical journey commenced with the release of his initial EPs, "Bruxelles c'est devenu la jungle" and "Famille nombreuse," in 2013 and 2014, respectively. His breakthrough came in 2016 with the EP "Morale," which set the stage for subsequent albums, including "Morale 2" in 2017 and its expanded version "Morale 2 luxe" in 2018, produced in collaboration with Le Motel. The 2019 album "Chocolat" further solidified his reputation, featuring notable collaborations with artists like Matthieu Chedid and Damon Albarn. In 2022, he released "Tout Peut Arriver," showcasing his evolving musical style.
Raised in a family with artistic roots—his father, Marka, is a singer-songwriter, and his sister, Angèle, is an acclaimed singer—Roméo developed a distinct sound that set him apart from his relatives. He honed his craft while studying at the Saint-Luc Tournai Institute and ESA 75 in Brussels, where he delved into visual arts and photojournalism.
Despite early struggles balancing a job at Carrefour with his music career, Roméo Elvis ultimately dedicated himself to his passion. His artistry has since attracted significant attention, and he has collaborated with various artists and brands, including a partnership with Lacoste in 2019. However, he faced challenges in 2020 when he addressed allegations of inappropriate behavior on social media but emerged resilient with a strong fanbase and continued musical evolution.
