Born in Tacna, Chile, he relocated to Argentina in the early 1950s, where he initially pursued studies in architecture and fine arts before fully immersing himself in the film industry.

Murúa's acting career was prolific, with over 80 film appearances from 1949 until his passing. He was a key figure in the resurgence of Argentine cinema during the 1960s, collaborating with notable directors such as Leopoldo Torre Nilsson, Rodolfo Kuhn, Manuel Antín, and David José Kohon.
