Kerry Ellis
Kerry Jane Townsend, more widely recognized as Kerry Ellis, was born on May 6, 1979, in Suffolk, England. An accomplished actress and singer, Ellis has made a significant mark in the realm of musical theatre before successfully transitioning into a music career. Her passion for performing ignited at a young age, leading her to attend Laine Theatre Arts at just 16.
Ellis embarked on her professional career in 1998, making a notable West End debut in the 2001 revival of *My Fair Lady*, where she understudied the iconic role of Eliza Doolittle. In 2002, a pivotal meeting with Brian May of Queen opened doors for her, leading to her role as Meat in the original London cast of *We Will Rock You*. She has since captivated audiences with her performances in acclaimed West End productions such as *Les Misérables*, *Wicked*—which took her to Broadway—and *Oliver!*, alongside national tours and concert performances in *Miss Saigon*, *Chess*, and *RENT*.
Recognized as the First Lady of West End musicals, Ellis has garnered numerous awards throughout her career. Although her time on *The Voice UK* in 2012 was less than favorable, she has continued to thrive as a solo artist, collaborating with May since 2002. Her discography includes the studio album *Anthems* (2010), which peaked at number 15 on the UK Albums Chart, and several live performances. In addition to her musical ventures, Ellis is actively involved in charity work with the Born Free Foundation alongside May.
