Maunier grew up in Lyon, attending a Roman Catholic school, and later honed his acting skills at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York City from 2008 to 2009, while also improving his English.

Maunier's breakthrough came with his portrayal of Pierre Morhange, a gifted singer among delinquents at Fond de L'Étang correctional school in *Les Choristes*.
