Chitra Dewi
Chitra Dewi, born Roro Patma Dewi Tjitrohadikusumo on January 26, 1934, and passing on October 28, 2008, was a prominent figure in the Indonesian film industry, recognized for her roles as an actress, producer, writer, and director. She gained widespread recognition after her performance in the 1956 film "Tiga Dara," alongside Mieke Wijaya and Indriati Iskak, which marked a significant turning point in her career.
As one of the few women in Indonesia's film scene to transition from acting to directing, Chitra Dewi carved her own path, joining the ranks of notable directors like Ratna Asmara and Sofia WD. She debuted in film with "Tamu Agung" in 1955, but it was her role in "Tiga Dara" that solidified her status in the industry. Through her own production company, Chitra Dewi Film Production, she directed several films, including "Horsemen of Tjimande," "Dara-Dara," and "Bercinta Dalam Gelap," all released in 1971.
Her notable acting credits include "Pedjuang" (1960), "Samiun and Dasima" (1970), "Bulan Above the Grave" (1973), "Kemelut Hidup" (1977), and "Gara-Gara Muda Wife" (1978), the latter earning her the Citra Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 1979 Festival Film Indonesia. Even decades after her debut, she remained a sought-after talent in the industry and was honored with the Professional Loyalty Award by the National Film Council in 1992 for her enduring contributions to Indonesian cinema.
