Murray James Cook AM, born on June 30, 1960, in Cowra, New South Wales, is a prominent Australian vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist, best recognized as a co-founder of the beloved children's band, The Wiggles. In addition to his musical career, Cook frequently appears on the Australian television quiz show Spicks and Specks, where he shares the screen with his friend and host, Adam Hills.
As a core member of The Wiggles, Murray is known for his signature red shirt and plays a vital role as both an instrumentalist and vocalist. Before his journey with The Wiggles began in 1991, Cook performed with various bands, including Transistor and Finger Guns, and later joined Bang Shang a Lang in Sydney. His passion for music led him to study early childhood education at Macquarie University, where he met fellow Wiggles members Anthony Field and Greg Page.
Murray's enthusiasm for guitar is evident, and he hopes to inspire children to embrace music. He cites The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton as key influences. In recognition of his contributions to children's entertainment, Cook was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia on January 26, 2010. His impressive guitar collection includes thirty vintage instruments, showcasing his deep love for music.
