Jho Low
Low Taek Jho, commonly known as Jho Low, was born on November 4, 1981, in Malaysia. He is a businessman whose name became synonymous with the infamous 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, where he is alleged to be the architect of a scheme that misappropriated approximately $4.5 billion from the sovereign wealth fund into his own accounts.
Low is currently an international fugitive, facing charges from global authorities for his involvement in one of the largest financial frauds in history. He asserts his innocence, claiming that the Malaysian government is targeting him due to his past ties to former Prime Minister Najib Razak. Najib himself was convicted on multiple counts, including money laundering and abuse of power, relating to the same scandal.
In addition to his controversial business dealings, Low played a significant role in the entertainment industry by supporting the establishment of Red Granite Pictures, a production company co-founded by Riza Aziz, the stepson of Najib Razak. Red Granite is known for producing high-profile films such as "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "Dumb and Dumber To." The U.S. government sought to recover rights related to these films due to their alleged connections to 1MDB funding, but a settlement was reached in August 2018, which clarified that the resolution did not imply any wrongdoing on the part of Red Granite.
