Renowned for his contributions to television and his role as a producer of films highlighting African American narratives, Schultz initially ventured into the entertainment world as a stage manager, actor, and producer with various summer stock companies from 1946 to 1953. After completing his education at Princeton University in 1954, he joined CBS-TV as a staff production assistant, where he worked on the shows Mama and Adventure. By 1955, he had advanced to the position of associate producer, contributing to notable television programs such as Studio One, Playhouse 90, and Kraft Theater. Schultz’s foray into independent producing spanned from 1959 to 1962, during which he worked as a freelance associate producer for television specials, including The Judy Garland Show and Belafonte: New York 19. His extensive experience and commitment to showcasing diverse stories have established him as a significant figure in the industry.
