Jüri Aarma
Jüri Aarma, born on May 30, 1951, in Kirov Oblast, was a prominent Estonian actor, musician, and cultural journalist who left a significant mark on the arts in Estonia before his passing on May 21, 2019, in Tallinn.
Aarma pursued his passion for performing arts at the Tallinn State Conservatory from 1970 to 1977, where he trained under notable figures such as Grigori Kromanov and Mikk Mikiver. Following his education, he joined the Youth Theater, where he showcased his talent until 1995. His creative journey continued as he became an influential voice in broadcasting; from 1992 to 1996, he served as a regular editor and co-author for Kuku Raadio.
In 1995, Aarma became a member of the Teater. Muusika. Kino collective, further broadening his artistic involvement. His contributions to cultural journalism began in 2005 with Maaleht, where he excelled in editing cultural news and conducting engaging interviews. He also made his mark on television by hosting the cultural program "Praegu ja siin" on Tallinna TV.
Apart from his professional accomplishments, Aarma's personal life was enriched by his marriage to choral conductor Merike Aarma, and he is survived by his children, Kiur and Roosi-Mae Aarma. Jüri Aarma's diverse talents and dedication to the cultural scene have left a lasting legacy in Estonia.
