Wendy Orlean Williams (May 28, 1949 – April 6, 1998), famously known as Wendy O. Williams, was a pioneering American singer, songwriter, and actress. Hailing from Webster, New York, she gained notoriety as the frontwoman of the influential punk rock band, Plasmatics. Renowned for her outrageous stage performances, Williams was known for her radical antics, which included destroying musical equipment, performing in provocative outfits, and even wielding chainsaws on stage.

At just 16, Williams left home and began a journey across the U.S., supporting herself by crocheting string bikinis. Her travels took her to various jobs, including lifeguarding, dancing, and working at Dunkin' Donuts. In 1978, upon returning to California, she ventured into live sex shows and appeared in the adult film "Candy Goes to Hollywood."

That same year, she caught the attention of manager Rod Swenson, leading to her joining Plasmatics, which quickly gained traction in New York City’s punk scene, notably at the famous CBGB club. After releasing three albums with the band, she launched a solo career with her debut album, "WOW," in 1984, followed by "Kommander of Kaos" (1986) and "Deffest! and Baddest!" (1988), before stepping away from music.

Williams also made her mark in film, featuring in "Reform School Girls" (1986) and various TV shows, including "MacGyver." Known as "The Queen of Shock Rock," she was a trailblazer for female performers and was nominated for a Grammy in 1985 for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. Tragically, Williams passed away by suicide on April 6, 1998, near her home in Storrs, Connecticut.
