William Edward Daily (August 30, 1927 – September 4, 2018) was a celebrated American actor and comedian, best recognized for his memorable roles in classic television sitcoms. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, and later raised in Chicago, Illinois, Daily initially embarked on a musical path, playing upright bass in various jazz bands across the Midwest. However, his passion for performance led him to transition to acting in the early 1960s, where he began landing guest roles on different television shows.

Daily's breakout role came in 1965 when he was cast as Major Roger Healey in the iconic series I Dream of Jeannie, where he portrayed the loyal friend of astronaut Tony Nelson, played by Larry Hagman. The show's popularity catapulted Daily into the limelight, making him a familiar face in American households.

Following the conclusion of I Dream of Jeannie in 1970, Daily starred in the short-lived sitcom The Good Guys before joining The Bob Newhart Show (1972–1978) as Howard Borden, a commercial airline navigator and close friend of psychologist Bob Newhart. His performance earned him an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 1977.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Daily remained active in television, with guest appearances on beloved series such as Cheers, Night Court, and The Golden Girls, as well as leading roles in short-lived shows like It's Not Easy (1983) and The Good Life (1994). Beyond television, he graced the big screen in films such as The Love Bug (1968), The Out of Towners (1970), and The Muppet Movie (1979), leaving a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry.
