Shobna Gulati
Shobna Gulati, born on August 7, 1966, is a celebrated British actress, writer, and dancer renowned for her impactful roles in television. Best known for her portrayal of Anita in the beloved sitcom *Dinnerladies* created by Victoria Wood, she has made significant contributions to British soap operas, particularly as Sunita Alahan on *Coronation Street*, which she portrayed from 2001 to 2006, returning briefly in 2009 and again until 2013. Additionally, she played Farah Khurana in the Scottish soap *River City* from 2017 to 2018. Notably, Gulati is one of the few actors to have crossed over between the rival soaps *Coronation Street* and *EastEnders*, where she appeared as Ameena Badawi in 2000.
Born in Oldham, Lancashire, to Hindu Indian parents, Gulati holds a degree in Arabic and Middle Eastern politics from the University of Manchester. Her early career included dancing in Boy George's music video for "Bow Down Mister" in 1991. She later gained acclaim for her role in the short film *Shadowscan*, which won a BAFTA, and was nominated for a Manchester Evening News theatre award for her performance in *Dancing Within Walls* in 2004.
