Mario Almada

Mario Almada Otero (January 7, 1922 - October 4, 2016) was a celebrated Mexican actor whose prolific career spanned over seventy years and included appearances in more than 370 films. Renowned for his roles in action films and urban westerns, Almada became a prominent figure in the Mexican cinema landscape. He was the elder brother of fellow actor Fernando Almada.

Born in Huatabampo, Sonora, Almada's artistic journey began in the 1930s, with his film debut occurring in 1935 in "Madre Querida," where he shared the screen as a child extra alongside his brother. Following this early appearance, he took a hiatus from film until the late 1950s, during which he relocated to Ciudad Obregón and later to Guadalajara, Jalisco, before finally settling in Mexico City.

Growing up in a family deeply connected to the film industry, Almada was surrounded by cinematic influences from a young age. In Mexico City, he worked at Cabaret Master, a nightclub owned by his father, which further immersed him in the entertainment world. As his brother pursued acting, Mario shifted his focus to film production, writing his first screenplay in 1963. The Almada brothers also established a family production company, although it ultimately succumbed to financial difficulties.

Almada passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 94 on October 4, 2016, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence Mexican cinema.
