Corinne Griffith

1 title Acting Nov 21, 1894 Died: Jul 13, 1979 Texarkana, Texas, USA

Corinne Griffith was born in Texarkana, Texas, to John Lewis Griffin and Ambolina (known as Ambolyn) Ghio. Her formative years included education at Sacred Heart Convent school in New Orleans, where she also began her career as a dancer. In 1916, Griffith ventured into the film industry, launching her acting journey at Vitagraph Studios. She soon transitioned to First National Pictures, where she quickly emerged as one of their top stars.

Griffith's career reached new heights in 1928 when she played the lead role in the acclaimed film *The Garden of Eden*. The following year, she earned an Academy Award nomination for her performance in *The Divine Lady*, solidifying her status in Hollywood. In 1930, she transitioned to sound films with *Lilies of the Field*, though her voice did not resonate well with audiences, leading to the film's lackluster performance at the box office, with critiques noting issues with her vocal delivery.

After appearing in one last film, the British production *Lily Christine* in 1932, Griffith stepped away from the spotlight. She made a brief return to acting in 1962 with the low-budget melodrama *Paradise Alley*, which received limited distribution. Despite her early successes, the transition to sound films marked a significant turning point in her career.
