Uwe Alzen
Uwe Alzen, born on August 18, 1967, in Kirchen, Rhineland-Palatinate, is a distinguished German racing driver renowned for his expertise in touring car and sports car racing. His career is marked by significant achievements, including victories in the 1992 German Porsche Carrera Cup, the 1994 Porsche Supercup, and the 1995 Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft privateer B-Class championship.
In 1996, Alzen participated in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft International Touring Car Championship, piloting an Opel Calibra V6. Following the series' conclusion, he continued with Opel in the German Super Tourenwagen Cup, where he experienced a dramatic championship saga in 1999. Although he initially celebrated a championship win under contentious circumstances, an investigation led to the title being reassigned to his rival, Christian Abt, after evidence revealed that his teammate had deliberately crashed into Abt.
Throughout his career, Alzen also competed in the 1998 FIA GT Championship and famously finished second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Porsche 911 GT1. His prowess at the Nürburgring Nordschleife was highlighted by a remarkable lap record of 8:09 with his self-built Porsche 996 GT2 Turbo, earning him the title of Driver of the Year from Nürburgring fans in 2004.
In 2008, Alzen made a foray into the Speedcar International Series with Phoenix Racing, securing two victories and finishing third overall, further solidifying his legacy in the world of motorsport.
