Anggun

Anggun Cipta Sasmi, born on April 29, 1974, in Jakarta, Indonesia, is a celebrated singer, songwriter, and television personality with Indonesian and French heritage. Her passion for music ignited at an early age; she began performing at just seven and released a children's album by nine. Anggun achieved significant recognition in 1989 as a teenage rock sensation, eventually releasing five Indonesian-language albums by 1993. Her hit single "Mimpi" earned a spot on Rolling Stone's list of the 150 Greatest Indonesian Songs of All Time.

In pursuit of a global music career, Anggun relocated to England in 1994 and later settled in France. Her debut international album, *Snow on the Sahara*, launched in 1997, was a commercial triumph, selling over a million copies across 33 countries. She has since produced six additional studio albums in both English and French, along with a soundtrack for the Danish film *Open Hearts* (2002). Many of her songs, including "Snow on the Sahara," "What We Remember," and "Perfect World," have charted on the Billboard lists in the U.S. and Europe. Anggun represented France at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 with "Echo (You and I)."

Beyond music, Anggun has made her mark on television as a judge on various talent shows, including *The X Factor* (2013) and *The Voice* (2018), and starred in the musical *Al Capone* (2023). An advocate for global causes, she has served as a UN ambassador for microcredit and food security. Notably, she is recognized as one of the best-selling Asian artists outside of Asia and has received numerous accolades, including the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres from France and a wax figure at Madame Tussauds, marking her as a pioneer in her field.
