Stephen Robert Macht is a distinguished American actor known for his extensive work in television and film. His career took off in 1975 when he was discovered by a talent scout from Universal Studios while performing at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada. Transitioning from teaching to acting, Macht quickly began to make his mark, appearing in various television shows and films throughout the mid-1970s.

One of Macht's notable performances came in the film "Raid on Entebbe," where he portrayed Yoni Netanyahu, the Israeli officer who died during a hostage rescue operation in Uganda. In 1978, he starred in the lead role of the miniseries "The Immigrants," which depicted the life of a son of Italian immigrants in early 20th-century San Francisco. His role in the television film "American Dream" led to a brief series where he played a man seeking a change from suburban life to an urban setting in Chicago.

Macht gained further recognition for his portrayal of Joe Cooper in the popular series "Knots Landing" and played Nancy McKeon's father in "Strange Voices." He also depicted Benedict Arnold in the miniseries "George Washington" and appeared in "Flight 90: Disaster on the Potomac." His tenure on "Cagney & Lacey" included directing his first episode.

In addition to his work on shows like "Babylon 5," "General Hospital," and "Suits," Macht's film credits include appearances in "The Choirboys," "Nightwing," and several installments of the "Trancers" series. Although he was initially considered for the iconic role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in "Star Trek: The Next Generation," the role ultimately went to Patrick Stewart.
