Steven S. DeKnight
Steven S. DeKnight, born on October 28, 1965, is a prominent American filmmaker and comic book writer celebrated for his impactful contributions to television and film. He gained widespread acclaim as the creator, head writer, and executive producer of the Starz series *Spartacus*, which includes *Spartacus: Blood and Sand*, *Spartacus: Gods of the Arena*, *Spartacus: Vengeance*, and *Spartacus: War of the Damned*. His talent also shone through in the Marvel universe, where he developed the first season of *Daredevil* and the Netflix series *Jupiter's Legacy*.
Before making his mark with *Spartacus*, DeKnight enriched shows like *Smallville*, *Buffy the Vampire Slayer*, and *Angel*. He contributed to the *Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight* comic series with his story "Swell" and served as a consulting producer on Joss Whedon's *Dollhouse*. In 2014, he stepped in as showrunner for *Daredevil* after Drew Goddard's exit due to scheduling conflicts.
DeKnight's versatility extends to film; in 2015, he became part of the writers' room for the *Transformers* franchise and directed *Pacific Rim Uprising*, collaborating with original director Guillermo del Toro. In 2018, he was announced as a showrunner for *Jupiter's Legacy*, though he departed the project the following year over creative differences.
In an industry move reflecting his principles, DeKnight joined fellow writers in a protest against the packaging practices of talent agencies in April 2019. Most recently, in November 2023, he returned to the *Spartacus* franchise as showrunner and executive producer for the newly greenlit series *Spartacus: House of Ashur*.
