KRS-One
Lawrence Parker, better known as KRS-One (an acronym for "Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone"), was born on August 20, 1965, and hails from the Bronx, New York. Emerging as a significant figure in hip-hop during the 1980s, he co-founded the influential group Boogie Down Productions alongside DJ Scott La Rock. KRS-One gained recognition for impactful tracks like "Sound of da Police," "Love's Gonna Get'cha (Material Love)," and "My Philosophy." The group achieved both critical and commercial success, especially with their groundbreaking debut album, *Criminal Minded*.
Tragically, after the untimely death of La Rock, KRS-One persevered, transforming the group into a solo endeavor and continuing to release music under his own name starting in 1993. His work often reflects social issues, exemplified by his initiation of the "Stop the Violence Movement" in response to violence in the hip-hop community. A passionate advocate for veganism, KRS-One addresses this cause in songs like "Beef." Over the years, he has established himself as a foundational figure in hip-hop, inspiring countless artists with his thought-provoking lyrics and commitment to social change. KRS-One remains a powerful voice in the genre, blending artistry with activism throughout his enduring career.
