Christopher Joseph Columbus, born on September 10, 1958, in Spangler, Pennsylvania, is a prominent American filmmaker known for his impactful contributions to both comedy and fantasy cinema. Columbus honed his filmmaking skills at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he cultivated a passion for storytelling through film. He initially made a name for himself in the mid-1980s by penning popular teen comedies such as *Gremlins*, *The Goonies*, and *Young Sherlock Holmes*.

His directorial debut came with the 1987 adventure flick *Adventures in Babysitting*, which set the stage for his future successes. Columbus quickly rose to fame with the holiday classic *Home Alone* (1990) and its sequel, *Home Alone 2: Lost in New York* (1992), both of which became major box office hits. Another significant triumph was *Mrs. Doubtfire* (1993), featuring Robin Williams, which further solidified his reputation in Hollywood.

In the early 2000s, Columbus directed the beloved adaptations of J.K. Rowling's *Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone* (2001) and *Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets* (2002), bringing the wizarding world to life for audiences worldwide. Beyond directing, he produced *Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban* (2004) and the acclaimed drama *The Help* (2011). He also helmed *Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief* (2010) and *Pixels* (2015).

Columbus co-founded 1492 Pictures in 1995, a production company responsible for many of his films, and in 2014, he established Maiden Voyage Pictures with his daughter. In 2017, he launched ZAG Animation Studios with industry partners. His collaboration with composer John Williams on projects like *Home Alone* and the *Harry Potter* series
