Barney Hoskyns
Barney Hoskyns, born on May 5, 1959, is a renowned British music journalist and the editorial director of the esteemed online music archive, Rock's Backpages. A distinguished graduate of the University of Oxford, where he earned a first-class degree in English, Hoskyns began his career in music journalism with publications such as Melody Maker and New Musical Express. He left his position at NME to delve into research for his first book, *Say It One Time For The Brokenhearted* (1987), setting the stage for a prolific writing career that has produced over fifteen books focused on musicians and the intricacies of music history.
In addition to his books, Hoskyns has contributed to various prominent publications, including British Vogue, where he served as a contributing editor for five years, as well as The Times, The Guardian, The Independent, and Arena magazine. His works have also appeared in Harper's Bazaar, Interview, Spin, and Rolling Stone. From 1993 to 1999, he held roles as associate editor and U.S. editor at Mojo magazine.
One of his notable contributions, *Glam! Bowie, Bolan & The Glitter Rock Revolution* (1998), coincided with Todd Haynes' *Velvet Goldmine*, for which Haynes wrote the introduction.
