Ikko Furuya was born in Tokyo and completed his education at Tokyo Metropolitan Itabashi High School before graduating from the Faculty of Law at Chuo University. During his university years, he embarked on his acting career by joining the 16th generation of the Haiyuza Training School. Furuya gained prominence in 1977 when he began portraying Kosuke Kindaichi, the renowned protagonist in the "Seiji Yokomizo Series/Detective Kosuke Kindaichi Series." His portrayal has become iconic in Japanese media.

From 1982 to 2007, he captivated audiences as Sakon Taro in the popular "Mixed Bathing Open-Air Bath Serial Murder" series, aired through "Saturday Wide Theater," further solidifying his status as a leading actor.

In addition to his successful acting career, Furuya is also the father of Kenji Furuya, the lead vocalist of the band Dragon Ash. Their bond extends to the entertainment industry, as Ikko appeared in a television commercial for Dragon Ash's album "Viva La Revolution" in 1999. The duo also collaborated on the film "Letters" in 2003, which Ikko starred in and produced, showcasing their familial connection and shared passion for the arts.
