Rémi Laurent
Rémi Laurent, born on October 12, 1957, in Suresnes, France, was a talented actor renowned for his memorable portrayal of Laurent in the iconic film La Cage aux Folles. Tragically, he passed away from an HIV-related illness on November 14, 1989, in Paris.
Raised in the affluent 16th arrondissement of Paris, Laurent was the son of a nursery nurse and an agricultural engineer. His early passion for music led him to learn piano, but during his teenage years, he shifted his focus to comedic acting, a decision that would shape his career.
Laurent made his film debut in the 1976 production À nous les petites Anglaises. Throughout the late 1970s and into the 1980s, he appeared in numerous popular French films, solidifying his status as a beloved actor. His role in La Cage aux Folles as the son of Renato Baldi, played by Ugo Tognazzi, remains one of his most celebrated performances. Additionally, he gained recognition for his portrayal of Denis Boucher in the Québécois film The Plouffe Family (Les Plouffe), directed by Gilles Carle.
In his personal life, Laurent had a romantic relationship with actress Anne Caudry, who tragically succumbed to HIV in 1991. He later married Emöke Masznyik, a Hungarian dancer and mime. Rémi Laurent's legacy endures through his significant contributions to French cinema. He is laid to rest in Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule.
