Gerard McCarthy

Gerard McCarthy is a talented actor hailing from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He received his early education at St. Mary's Christian Brothers' Grammar School. In a significant personal revelation, McCarthy came out as non-binary in 2022, embracing a broader understanding of identity.

In 2002, he graduated from Laine Theatre Arts after being awarded the prestigious Sir Kenneth Branagh Renaissance Scholarship, which set the stage for his acting career. McCarthy is perhaps best known for his role as Kevin McSwain in the critically acclaimed BBC 2 drama The Fall, which starred Gillian Anderson and received a BAFTA nomination.

On Netflix, he showcased his skills alongside esteemed actors such as Sir Derek Jacobi, Neve Campbell, and Joely Richardson in Titanic: Blood & Steel. This ambitious 12-part series chronicles the remarkable construction of the RMS Titanic in early 20th-century Belfast and garnered five IFTA Award nominations, including Best Series.

Additionally, McCarthy appeared as Brondsted in the inaugural episode of the History Channel’s Vikings, featuring Gabriel Byrne, and portrayed Rory Thompson in the modern adaptation of Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan, titled Belonging to Laura, directed by Karl Golden. This film was nominated for Best Single Drama at the IFTA Awards.

From 2006 to 2010, McCarthy captivated audiences with his award-winning performance as Kris Fisher in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, earning nominations for Best Newcomer at both the British Soap Awards and the National Television Awards.
