Richard Elliott
Richard Elliott, born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, initially aspired to be a studio musician, focusing on the organ. His early musical education included training at the preparatory division of the Peabody Conservatory and the Catholic University of America. He later earned a bachelor's degree from the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music, where he also contributed as an assistant organist for the renowned Wanamaker Organ. It was during his time at Curtis that Elliott embraced the teachings of the LDS Church and subsequently served a mission in Argentina from 1981 to 1983.
Elliott furthered his studies at the Eastman School of Music, obtaining both a Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree under the tutelage of David Craighead. He went on to join the faculty at Brigham Young University as a professor of music. In 1991, following the retirement of Robert Cundick, Elliott was appointed as a Tabernacle organist, where he plays a vital role in accompanying the Tabernacle Choir and performs recitals at Temple Square.
Beyond his responsibilities at the Tabernacle, Elliott has an extensive discography, having recorded numerous organ works across various labels. He is also recognized for his published arrangements for organ, with many available through Jackman Music. His contributions to the music world are celebrated, showcasing his dedication to the art of organ performance and education.
