Jason Hughes

Jason Hughes is a prominent Welsh actor, widely recognized for his portrayal of Sergeant Ben Jones in the long-running ITV series Midsomer Murders from 2005 to 2013. He initially gained fame through his role as lawyer Warren Jones in the BBC drama This Life, which aired from 1996 to 1997. Hughes has also showcased his theatrical talents, notably in a 1999 revival of Our Country's Good, where he played Second Lieutenant Ralph Clark.

Born on December 18, 1971, in Porthcawl, South Wales, Hughes comes from a rich cultural heritage, with Italian and Welsh roots. His grandfather, Raldo Carpinini, was the son of an Italian immigrant who settled in Ammanford, while his maternal grandfather served as a police officer in Porthcawl. Though Hughes aspired to be a professional athlete in rugby or cricket during his youth, he ultimately redirected his ambitions towards the performing arts.

Before embarking on his acting journey, Hughes trained as a nurse in Cardiff in 1990, later working in neurosurgery and magazine publishing. He made his television debut in 1996 and joined Midsomer Murders in 2005, remaining with the show for eight seasons before departing in 2013 to explore new opportunities.

Beyond television, Hughes has appeared in films such as Killing Me Softly (2002) and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008). He is also an author, having penned two books: The ABCs of Love: A Love Story and Game Dev Insights. Hughes is married to Natasha Dahlberg and they share three children, while he remains a dedicated supporter of the Ospreys rugby team. Since leaving Midsomer Murders, he has continued to appear in various television series and films like The Girl with All the Gifts (2016) and The Levelling (2019).
