Eiji Okada
Eiji Okada (June 13, 1920 – September 14, 1995) was a prominent Japanese film actor known for his impactful performances in cinema. Born in Chōshi, Chiba, Japan, Okada's early life included serving in the Japanese army during World War II, followed by stints as a miner and a traveling salesman before he eventually pursued an acting career.
He is best remembered internationally for his roles in landmark films, particularly as Lui in the acclaimed 1959 film "Hiroshima mon amour," directed by Alain Resnais. Another notable performance came in Hiroshi Teshigahara's "Woman in the Dunes" (1964), where he portrayed the entomologist Niki Junpei in an adaptation of Kōbō Abe's novel.
Beyond his film work, Okada was married to Aiko Wasa, and together they established a theatre company in Japan, contributing to the arts and culture of the country.
Eiji Okada passed away on September 14, 1995, due to heart failure, leaving behind a significant legacy in Japanese film history at the age of 75. His contributions to cinema continue to be celebrated and remembered by audiences worldwide.
