Colson Baker, widely recognized by his stage name mgk, originally performed under the moniker Machine Gun Kelly, a title inspired by both his rapid-fire delivery and the infamous gangster George "Machine Gun Kelly" Barnes.

Born in Houston, Texas, mgk's childhood involved several relocations until 2005, when he and his family made Cleveland, Ohio their permanent home—a place he strongly identifies with. He is currently signed to Bad Boy and Interscope Records.

His ascent to stardom began with the release of his first four mixtapes: Stamp Of Approval in 2006, Homecoming in 2008, 100 Words and Running in 2010, and Lace Up, also in 2010. These projects showcased his lyrical prowess and helped establish his reputation in the music industry.
