Gene Lyons
Gene Lyons (February 9, 1921 – July 8, 1974) was a prominent American television actor hailing from Pittsburgh, recognized primarily for his portrayal of Police Commissioner Dennis Randall on the NBC detective series *Ironside*, which starred Raymond Burr.
A dedicated member of The Actors Studio, Lyons made significant contributions to the theater, including a notable two-year run in the Broadway production of *Witness for the Prosecution*. His Broadway repertoire also features productions such as *Masquerade* (1958), *The Trip to Bountiful* (1953), *Harriet* (1942), and *This Rock* (1942).
In 1953, he showcased his talent as a police detective in the CBS drama *Pentagon U.S.A.*, and the following year, he took on the character Steve Rockwell in the daytime drama *Woman with a Past*. Before securing his iconic role on *Ironside*, he appeared on *Perry Mason* in 1965 as the villainous Ralph Balfour in "The Case of the Wrathful Wraith." Over his career, Lyons guest-starred in a wide array of television series, including *The Dick Van Dyke Show*, *Gunsmoke*, *The Fugitive*, *Star Trek* (in "A Taste of Armageddon"), and *The Twilight Zone* (in "King Nine Will Not Return"). His film credits include *Kiss Her Goodbye* and *The Young Don't Cry*.
Lyons passed away in Los Angeles, California, on July 8, 1974, and was laid to rest at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Pittsburgh.
