Chubby Carrier
Roy "Chubby" Carrier is a prominent figure in the world of zydeco music, known for leading the energetic ensemble Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band. Hailing from Louisiana, he was immersed in the sounds of zydeco from an early age, influenced by his father and grandfather, both of whom were musicians in the genre. His musical journey began with accordion lessons from his father, Roy Carrier Sr., leading him to perform with his father's band at just 12 years old, initially playing accordion and later switching to drums.
In the late 1980s, Carrier collaborated with acclaimed zydeco artist Terrance Simien before forming his own band alongside his brothers, Troy and Kevin. Carrier’s musical prowess came to the forefront with the release of his third album, *Dance All Night*, in 1993, which became a significant milestone in his career.
Throughout his journey, Carrier has contributed to various notable albums, including collaborations with artists such as Tab Benoit on *Live: Swampland Jam* and Doug Kershaw on *Cajun Sweet Home Louisiana*. His 2010 album, *Zydeco Junkie*, garnered critical acclaim, earning him a Grammy Award for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album.
