Kathryn Joosten
Kathryn Joosten was born in Chicago, Illinois, and initially pursued a career as a psychiatric nurse at Michael Reese Hospital. While living in Lake Forest, she married a psychiatrist and together they raised two sons. After her marriage ended in divorce in 1980, Joosten sought a new path and discovered her passion for acting, making her stage debut in community theater in 1982 at the age of 42.

She is best known for her memorable roles on popular television shows, particularly as Karen McCluskey on the acclaimed series "Desperate Housewives," where she portrayed the witty and wise neighbor, earning her two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. Her other notable work includes a recurring role on "The West Wing," where she played the character of Dolores Landingham, a role that further showcased her range and depth as an actress.
