Carla Laemmle, born Rebekah Isabelle Laemmle on October 20, 1909, in Chicago, Illinois, was a prominent American actress and dancer, best known for her contributions to the film industry during the silent and early sound eras. As the niece of Carl Laemmle, the founder of Universal Pictures, she had a unique connection to Hollywood's golden age.

Laemmle made a significant impact with her memorable performances in classic films, notably appearing in the iconic 1925 silent film "The Phantom of the Opera" and the 1931 classic "Dracula." These roles established her as a notable figure in cinema history, showcasing her talents and helping to bridge the transition from silent films to talkies.

Her career spanned an impressive nearly 90 years, making her one of the last surviving actors from the silent film era, with one of the longest breaks of any contemporary performer. Laemmle passed away at the remarkable age of 104 on June 12, 2014, in her home in Los Angeles. Although she never married or had children, she shared a meaningful companionship with actor and writer Raymond Cannon until his death in 1977.
