Andrew Bown
Andrew Steven Bown, born on March 27, 1946, is a distinguished English musician recognized for his expertise in keyboards and bass guitar. He is a prominent member of the legendary rock band Status Quo.
Bown's musical journey began with The Herd, where he played alongside Peter Frampton. Following the band's split, he joined Judas Jump, serving as their opening act at the renowned Isle of Wight Festival in 1970. In the early 1970s, he collaborated with Frampton, initially on keyboards, before briefly switching to bass after Rick Wills’ departure from the band. Bown left Frampton's crew shortly before the artist's rise to international fame, returning to England to explore a solo career, which included two albums under Bill Gaff's GM label.
In 1973, Bown became a session musician for Status Quo, contributing to the iconic "Hello!" album and continuing to work with the band on every album from 1977's "Rockin' All Over the World" onward. He officially joined Status Quo as a full member in 1982 and has remained an integral part of their lineup.
His solo work includes several singles in the 1970s, notably the theme for the children's series "Ace of Wands," titled "Tarot," and five studio albums, including "Gone to My Head" (1972) and "Unfinished Business" (2011). Bown also showcased his talents as the bass player for the "Surrogate Band" during Pink Floyd's 1980-81 "The Wall" tour and contributed to their album "The Final Cut." His ongoing contributions to Status Quo include co-writing hits like "Whatever You Want."
