Kati Kovács, born Katalin Anna Sarolta Kovács on October 25, 1944, is a celebrated Hungarian pop-rock vocalist, lyricist, and actress, renowned for her powerful mezzo-soprano voice. With a career that spans over six decades, she has earned the prestigious Ferenc Liszt and Kossuth Awards, solidifying her status as one of Hungary's most iconic musical figures.
Kovács first graced the stage in 1962, achieving national fame in 1965 after winning the influential Hungarian television talent show "Ki mit tud?". Her breakout hit, "I Won't Be Your Plaything" (Nem leszek a játékszered), won the TV Dance Song Festival in 1966, marking the beginning of her ascent in the music industry. In 1968, she expanded her talents to film, starring in notable productions like "The Girl."
Her song "Lord Send Us Rain" (Add már, uram, az esőt!), which won both the Hungarian Dance Song Festival and the German Song Contest in 1972, showcased her versatility across genres including opera, jazz, and rock. Collaborating with the rock band Locomotiv GT, she produced several successful albums, including "Kovács Kati & Locomotiv GT" and "Kati."
