Charles Gunning, a native of Waxahachie, Texas, developed a passion for the arts during his childhood in Dallas. His artistic journey flourished in Austin, Texas, where he immersed himself in the local music and art communities for two decades. In 1991, he made the move to Los Angeles, California, to further pursue his dreams. Gunning honed his craft by studying Television and Film at The University of Texas at Austin and later at the prestigious American Film Institute Conservatory in Hollywood.

His breakthrough came when acclaimed filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen cast him in their celebrated film *Miller's Crossing* (1990). He garnered a cult following for his memorable performance in Richard Linklater's *Slacker* (1990), a defining film of the indie movement. Gunning showcased his talent in the Western drama *Wild Bill* (1995), sharing the screen with notable actors Jeff Bridges and Ellen Barkin. He co-starred as "Slim" in Linklater’s *The Newton Boys* (1998), alongside Matthew McConaughey and Ethan Hawke.

In addition to his film work, Gunning has made numerous appearances on television, featuring in series such as *High Incident* (1996), *Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman* (1993), and *Star Trek: The Next Generation* (1987). He has also starred in TV movies like *Attack of the 5 Ft. 2 Women* (1994).
