McManaman's career took off during his nine-year tenure at Liverpool F.C., where he played a pivotal role in securing the FA Cup and League Cup. His remarkable performance in the 1995–96 season earned him the distinction of being the Premier League's top assist provider, and he was subsequently honored with a spot in the PFA Team of the Year for the 1996–97 season.

In 1999, McManaman made a significant move to Real Madrid, where he achieved even greater heights, winning La Liga and twice lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy. Notably, he became the first English player to win the Champions League with a club outside of England and later made history as the first Englishman to claim the title a second time.

After concluding his playing career at Manchester City in 2005, McManaman transitioned into broadcasting, serving as a co-commentator for ESPN and BT Sport, and has also taken on the role of La Liga ambassador, sharing his expertise and passion for the game.
