Henry Alfred Kissinger (originally Heinz; May 27, 1923 – November 29, 2023) was a distinguished German-born American diplomat, political scientist, and geopolitical consultant. He held significant positions as the United States Secretary of State and National Security Advisor during the administrations of Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.
From 1969 to 1977, Kissinger was instrumental in shaping U.S. foreign policy. He was a key architect of the policy of détente with the Soviet Union and was pivotal in establishing diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. Known for his strategic approach, he engaged in shuttle diplomacy in the Middle East, aiming to resolve the Yom Kippur War, and played a crucial role in negotiating the Paris Peace Accords, which marked the end of U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.
After his government service, Kissinger established Kissinger Associates, an international consulting firm specializing in geopolitical matters. In addition to his practical contributions to diplomacy, he authored more than a dozen influential books on diplomatic history and international relations, solidifying his legacy as a key figure in modern diplomacy and global affairs.
