Annabel Leventon
Judith Annabel Leventon, born on April 20, 1942, in Hertfordshire, England, is a distinguished English actress known for her versatile performances across stage and television. While studying English at the University of Oxford, she showcased her talent at the Oxford Playhouse and toured France playing Desdemona in a production of Othello with the Oxford University Dramatic Society.
After completing her BA, Leventon received a grant to attend the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA), making her professional debut in Leicester. In December 1967, she relocated to the United States, joining Tom O'Horgan's La MaMa troupe in New York for seven months before returning to the UK. Notably, she was part of the original London cast of the groundbreaking musical Hair in 1968 at the Shaftesbury Theatre, a production she later directed in Paris. Additionally, she starred in the original London production of The Rocky Horror Show.
Leventon's television career began with The White Rabbit in 1967, leading to numerous appearances in popular series over the ensuing decades. Her filmography includes significant works such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), M. Butterfly (1993), and A Royal Night Out (2015).
In recent years, she garnered acclaim for her role as Constance in the British premiere of Jerry Herman's Dear World in 2013 and was nominated for an Offie for her performance in The Journey to Venice in 2023. Leventon also authored The Real Rock Follies: The Great Girl Band Rip-Off of 1976, published in 2017.
