Anneke van Giersbergen
Anna Maria "Anneke" van Giersbergen, born on March 8, 1973, is a renowned Dutch vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist, best recognized as the lead singer of the progressive rock band The Gathering from 1994 to 2007. Her powerful voice and emotive delivery helped the band gain international acclaim and significantly shaped the sound of the genre. In pursuit of her solo career, she initially released music under the name Agua de Annique, but has since embraced her own name for her projects.
A notable aspect of her career is her frequent collaboration with composer Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Van Giersbergen has lent her vocals to key roles in several of his ambitious albums, including *Into the Electric Castle*, *01011001*, and *The Theater Equation*. In 2014, the duo joined forces to create The Gentle Storm, resulting in the 2015 album *The Diary*. Expanding her musical exploration, she formed the band VUUR in 2016, which emphasizes the heavier elements of her artistry.
