Lisa Azuelos
Lisa Azuelos, born Elise-Anne Bethsabée Azuelos on November 6, 1965, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, is a prominent French filmmaker, author, and producer. She is the daughter of celebrated singer and actress Marie Laforêt and Judas Azuelos, who hails from a Moroccan Jewish background. Lisa grew up with a younger brother and a step-sister named Deborah.
Her early life was marked by her parents' separation when she was just two years old. Raised primarily by her mother, she endured a challenging childhood, spending time at a Swiss boarding school known for its harsh treatment of children. Eventually, she and her brother were placed in the care of a family in a small village in Sarthe. At the age of twelve, she began living with her father, where she first connected with her Sephardic roots.
Lisa's personal life includes her marriage to film producer Patrick Alessandrin, whom she met through filmmaker Luc Besson. Together, they have three children: Carmen, Illan, and Thaïs, but the couple divorced after 11 years.
In her professional career, Azuelos has made a name for herself in the film industry, establishing a production company named Bethsabée Mucho, in homage to her paternal great-grandmother. Her work often reflects her rich cultural heritage and personal experiences, contributing significantly to contemporary French cinema.
