Susan Stryker
Susan Stryker is a prominent scholar and filmmaker whose influential work has significantly contributed to the discourse surrounding transgender issues since the early 1990s. She obtained her Ph.D. in United States History from the University of California-Berkeley in 1992. Following her doctoral studies, Stryker was awarded a Ford Foundation/Social Science Research Council post-doctoral fellowship in sexuality studies at Stanford University. Her academic career includes distinguished visiting positions at prestigious institutions such as Harvard University, Northwestern University, Johns Hopkins University, UC Santa Cruz, Macquarie University in Sydney, and Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. In the 2019-2020 academic year, she served at Yale University.
Stryker's prolific writing includes a variety of influential books and anthologies that have shaped the field of transgender studies. Her notable works encompass "Gay by the Bay: A History of Queer Culture in the San Francisco Bay Area" (Chronicle, 1996), "Queer Pulp: Perverse Passions in the Golden Age of the Paperback" (Chronicle, 2000), "The Transgender Studies Reader" (Routledge, 2006), "Transgender History: The Roots of Today’s Revolution" (Seal Press, 2008 and 2017), and "The Transgender Studies Reader 2" (2013).
