Vasili Chkhaidze
Vasili Chkhaidze, born in the village of Atsana within the Ozurgeti district of Kutaisi province in the Russian Empire, emerged as a prominent figure in Georgian arts. His remarkable contributions to the performing arts were recognized when he was honored as an Artist of the Georgian SSR in 1979.
Chkhaidze pursued his studies in the German department at Tbilisi State University, graduating in 1936. His career in theater began early, as he performed at the Batumi Theater from 1927 to 1934. He later joined the Georgian State Theater, where he honed his craft. From 1937 to 1956, he expanded his career as a dedicated educator, teaching Russian and German at local schools.
In 1956, Chkhaidze returned to his passion for acting, taking on roles at the Poti Drama Theater named after V. Gunia until 1962. His transition to film came in 1967 when he joined the "Gruzia-Film" studio, where he gained significant recognition for his role as Pipinia in the film "Extraordinary Exhibition." Over the years, Chkhaidze left an indelible mark on Georgian theater and cinema, becoming a beloved figure through his diverse performances and contributions to the cultural landscape of Georgia.
