Sissani (Mohamed Djediat)
Mohamed Djediat, known by his stage name Sissani, was born on September 26, 1920, in Algiers, Algeria. He emerged as a prominent actor and production director throughout his illustrious career. Sissani began his artistic journey in 1933 at the Chabiba school, eventually joining the Nadi Taraqi troupe, where he was selected by Bachetarzi to introduce fresh talent alongside notable figures like Mansali and Keltoum.
His versatile talents allowed him to thrive in both music and theatre, performing with the Mahieddine troupe and the Réda Bey troupe, as well as appearing in radio plays and television films from 1952 onward, with “El Yakachine” directed by Ali Abdoun being one of his early roles. Additionally, he founded the publishing house El Kawakib, which featured the celebrated song “Meghdour Mimouna” by the duo Soudani and Hachemi.
Sissani joined the National Theatre of Algeria (TNA) in 1966, where his commanding presence was felt in various productions, including "Bab El Foutouh," "Chant De La Forêt," and "Le Cercle de Craie Caucasien." His cinematic contributions include significant films such as “Chronique des Années de Braise” (1974) and “Les Déracinés” (1976). His final film appearance was in "The Clandestine" (1989).
Despite battling illness, Sissani remained dedicated to his craft until his passing on June 29, 2003, at the age of 83. He is remembered for his courage, humor, and unwavering spirit, and he rests in the El Alia cemetery in Algiers.
