He gained fame in the 1970s as the charismatic lead vocalist of Black Sabbath, earning the moniker "Prince of Darkness."

As a founding member of Black Sabbath, Osbourne contributed to the band's pioneering sound from their self-titled debut in 1970 until 1978's Never Say Die!. However, after facing personal challenges with substance abuse, he was dismissed from the group in 1979. Osbourne then launched a successful solo career, starting with Blizzard of Ozz in 1980, and released a total of 13 studio albums, seven of which achieved multi-platinum status in the United States.

In addition to his music career, Osbourne reunited with Black Sabbath multiple times, including for their final studio album, 13, in 2013, and a farewell tour culminating in a performance in Birmingham in 2017. Over his lifetime, Osbourne sold over 100 million records worldwide. He received numerous accolades, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as both a member of Black Sabbath in 2006 and as a solo artist in 2024. He was also honored with the Global Icon Award at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards.

In the early 2000s, Osbourne transitioned into reality television with the hit show The Osbournes, featuring his family.
