Laura Adkin
Laura Adkin, a filmmaker hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, has made significant strides in the film and television landscape since her entry into the industry in the early 2000s. Initially starting her career as an actress, she transitioned to behind-the-scenes roles in the following decade, taking on the responsibilities of producer, writer, and, most recently, director.
Adkin's directorial journey began with her acclaimed short film, The Goodnight Kiss, which received the esteemed Bravofact grant. This project garnered international attention, screening at various film festivals and earning numerous accolades, including Best Short Film at the Edmonton International Film Festival along with eight Leo Awards nominations.
Her achievements in the industry are noteworthy; she was selected for a prestigious female directors initiative by Disney and was invited to pitch for the MPPIA short film award. Adkin has also been recognized as a finalist multiple times at the Austin Film Festival for her screenplays and short films. Additionally, she participated in Telus Storyhive's Career Accelerator and WIDC's Career Advancement Module. Her feature film debut, Re: Uniting, was developed through the Women in the Directors Chair program, benefiting from their Story & Leadership initiative.
Outside of her filmmaking endeavors, Laura is an active member of the film community and a devoted fan of the Vancouver Canucks.
