John Paizs

John Paizs, born in 1957 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, is a multifaceted talent known for his work as a director, writer, and actor. He gained significant recognition in 1985 when his independent comedy, *Crime Wave*, premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. In this film, Paizs not only took on the role of the male lead but also showcased his skills as both writer and director.

Following the success of *Crime Wave*, he contributed to various television series, honing his craft and expanding his creative horizons. However, it wasn't until 1999 that he returned to feature filmmaking with *Top of the Food Chain*, a clever and stylish homage to the classic science fiction films of the 1950s, produced on a modest budget.

In addition to his film work, Paizs has made significant contributions to the Canadian film landscape as the Director in Residence at the Canadian Film Centre, where he continues to inspire and guide emerging filmmakers.
