Phillip Hinton

Phillip Hinton (1942-2021) was a distinguished actor and voice artist who made significant contributions to the entertainment industry in Australia, despite his roots in England and upbringing in South Africa. Hinton embarked on his acting journey at the young age of 18, building upon his early stage experience in South Africa. In 1963, he became a member of the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company in London, where he honed his craft in classic theater.

After relocating to Australia in 1975, Hinton transitioned into radio acting and became a vital part of the vocal talent pool at animation studios like Air Programs International and its successor, Burbank Films. His notable voice work includes characters in animated adaptations of literary classics, such as Mark Twain's "Tom Sawyer," Dickens's "A Tale of Two Cities," and Stevenson's "Treasure Island." He also contributed to beloved holiday specials, including "The Story of the First Christmas" and "The Little Drummer Boy."

In addition to his voice work, Hinton appeared on screen in various Australian films and television shows. His credits include the comedy feature "Clowning Around" and notable miniseries such as "The Thorn Birds: The Missing Years." He also featured in the 1980s revival of "Mission: Impossible" and in TV movies like "The Three Stooges" and "Dynasty: The Making of a Guilty Pleasure," where he portrayed ABC chairman Leonard Goldenson. Hinton's diverse talents left an indelible mark on the Australian arts scene.
