Elena Yakovleva, born on March 5, 1961, in Novograd-Volynsky, Ukraine, is a celebrated Russian actress renowned for her impactful performances in both film and theater. The daughter of an Army officer and a scientific researcher, Yakovleva was inspired by her great-grandmother's acting career and developed a passion for the stage early on, participating in local school productions.

After graduating high school in 1978, she briefly worked as a librarian and in the electronics sector before pursuing her dream in Moscow. In 1980, she enrolled at the State Institute for Theatrical Arts (GITIS), where she honed her craft under the guidance of Vladimir Andreev, graduating in 1984. Shortly thereafter, she joined the Sovremennik Theatre, where she performed alongside notable actors like Inna Churikova and Sergey Garmash.

Yakovleva gained widespread acclaim for her role as Tatiana in the 1989 film "Intergirl," portraying a nurse who turns to prostitution amidst the harsh realities of Soviet life. This performance earned her the title of "Best Actress" in the Soviet Union for 1990 and solidified her status as a leading figure in Russian cinema. She further captivated audiences with her portrayal of the criminal investigator Kamenskaya in the successful TV series of the same name, which ran for six years.

Beyond her acting career, Yakovleva is a popular TV show host and is actively engaged in social causes. She enjoys tennis and spending time with her family, including her husband, actor Valeri Shalnykh, and their son, Denis, born in 1992. Currently residing in Moscow, she continues to be a prominent figure in the arts and public life.
