Frances Dade, originally known as Lorelei Lee, was an American film actress who made her mark in the late 1920s and 1930s. Born on February 14, 1910, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she ventured to Hollywood in search of acting opportunities during the late 1920s. Dade's talent was recognized by renowned producer Samuel Goldwyn while she was performing with the touring company of *Gentlemen Prefer Blondes*. This led to a contract with Goldwyn, after which she decided to explore freelance options.

Her cinematic debut came in 1928 with an uncredited role in *The Constant Nymph*, alongside stars Dorothy Boyd and Mabel Poulton. By 1930, she had appeared in four films, including *Grumpy*. However, it was in 1931 that Dade achieved her most significant role as Lucy Weston in the iconic horror film *Dracula*, featuring Bela Lugosi. The memorable scene of Lugosi looming over her remains a cultural touchstone. This performance earned her a spot as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars, a recognition shared with notable names like Marian Marsh and Karen Morley.

Despite her early success, Dade's film opportunities began to diminish, and she appeared in only one film, *Big Town*, in 1932. Following her brief acting career, she transitioned to Broadway with the play *Collision* before retiring from the spotlight. Dade married affluent socialite Brock Van Avery and returned to Philadelphia, where she later worked in nursing. She passed away in 1968 at the age of 57.
